He is joking (dumber) and his new bride is trying to laugh off his ridiculous (dangerous) behavior without offending him. I have mixed feelings about Iraq. A lot of people are on cots in a tent like the other bed pictured in this album. This stuff is taken for granted, but most people especially here don't have these luxuries.
